Monday Kfirst Kickstart: “The Idol of our Ideals” #PivotPoint

Today I want to give you a place to start your week. It’s Monday and in the wake of a great weekend and long workweek ahead, sometimes you just need a “kickstart” to get focused.  So grab some coffee let’s start a great week together.

I’ll be honest, this might be one of my favorite series to preach at Kfirst. “Pivot Point” has been our study of the life of Jacob. Even though he didn’t have the “model life”, God always had something beautiful in store for him. Our goal yesterday was to help people understand “when we idolize our ideals, it confuses our identity.” (Click here for yesterday’s notes.)

Ideals are defined as, “something regarded as perfect; existing only in the imagination; desirable but not likely to become a reality.” And the Enemy wants us pursuing our ideals more than us pursuing the presence of God.

We put focus into the deterioration of Jacob’s identity when he put more focus into his ” perfect ideal” instead of the perfect heavenly Father who had great plans for him.  Ideals have a way of seducing us into serving them to get fulfillment. Jesus does the opposite. He gives us fulfillment in life to operate from. That’s why we said,

Our next steps to do this week:

  1. Deal with the real.
    • Get real with God. Give him your pain and frustration. Give him your present and your future.
  2. Allow God to shape you.
    • Have issues with your past, accept His forgiveness.
    • Want help with your present, God wants to empower your life.
    • Need a future, receive hope in Christ.
  3. Receive and respond to God blessing you.
    • God does not bless something that is complete; He blesses you to do a complete work.

Spend some time in the Word and in prayer this week. Rediscover your identity in Christ and follow His direction for you. If you need a scripture reading plan, check out this one.

Love you all.  See you on Sunday as we continue our series, “Pivot Point.”

BTW: Here’s a song this week for your devotions playlist:
